Russian-Held Regions In Ukraine Express Their Desire To Join Moscow: Putin

Putin said that residents of Moscow-held regions in Ukraine expressed their desire to be part of Russia. Moscow: Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin said early on Saturday that residents of Moscow-held regions in Ukraine expressed their desire to be part of Russia in recent local elections, reaffirming referendums last year that Western countries denounced as illegal. In a video address released on the one-year anniversary of Russia's controversial announcement it was annexing four parts of Ukraine, Putin said the choice to join Russia was reinforced by this month's local elections that returned officials supporting Russia's annexation. "Just as a year ago in the historic referendums, people again expressed and confirmed their will to be with Russia and supported their countrymen who, through their labour and real actions, proved worthy of the people's trust," he said in a video of just over four minutes issued at midnight. Putin reiterated his stance that R

Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in June outside Gurdwara in Surrey. Washington: The killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar remains an "active and ongoing investigation", the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have said. Nijjar, the chief of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), was killed in Surrey, British Columbia on June 18. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020. The killing of Nijjar, 45, is being investigated by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of RCMP. "We are aware of reports being made regarding the homicide of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. As this remains an active and ongoing investigation, I'm unable to comment on specific evidence collected by IHIT," IHIT spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Pierotti told PTI on Thursday. "Dangerous Happening": Biden On Trump's Potential Return To White House

"There's something dangerous happening in America now", Biden said on Trump's potential return power. Washington: Issuing blunt new warnings about his predecessor Donald Trump's potential return to the White House, US President Joe Biden cited "potential threats" to the country's democracy, stating that something "dangerous" is happening in America. Stating that democracies die when people "remain silent" and "don't stand up", he urged the voters to prioritise the health of American institutions. "There's something dangerous happening in America now…There's an extremist movement that does not share the basic beliefs of our democracy: The MAGA movement," Biden said during his speech in Arizona on Thursday. "We should all remember: Democracies don't have to die at the end of a rifle. They can die when people are silent, when they fail to stand up," he added. "There's no

"They Can Speak For...": US On India's Response On Canada's Allegations

India has outrightly rejected Canada claims, calling it 'absurd' and 'motivated'. Washington: US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller said that India can speak for itself regarding the Canadian allegations related to Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing and the ongoing investigations. He mentioned that Washington has urged New Delhi to collaborate with the Canadian investigation. During the press briefing, State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller was asked whether the issue of Canadian allegations will be raised during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's meeting with his US counterpart Antony Blinken. "One of the practices I'm going to continue to try to adhere to, is to not speak publicly about what, Secretary Blinken or other representatives of this department will say in their meetings before the Secretary has a chance to say it directly to those counterparts," Miller said. He added, "We have consisten

Biden Warns Democracies "Can Die When People Are Silent, Fail To Stand Up"

"Democracies don't have to die at the end of a rifle, US President Joe Biden said. Washington: President Joe Biden launched a blistering, direct attack on "extremist" Donald Trump Thursday, urging Americans to stand up for democracy and accusing his rival of trying to subvert US institutions. The Democrat said in a speech in the battleground state of Arizona that Trump was driven by "vengeance and vindictiveness" and that the Republican and his hard-right allies were attacking the free press and rule of law. To avoid appearance of judicial interference, Biden has steered clear of commenting on the multiple criminal indictments against Trump, including over his involvement in efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss -- culminating in mayhem unleashed by his supporters at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. But Biden, 80, did not hold back in the speech about what he says the country would risk from a second Trump term. "We should all remember:

Canada Parliament Speaker Quits After Praising Nazi-Linked Veteran

The speaker of Canada's parliament, Anthony Rota, apologised for the gaffe Ottawa: The speaker of Canada's House of Commons lower chamber on Tuesday said he would quit, a few days after he publicly praised a former Nazi soldier in Parliament in an incident that Russia said helped justify its war on Ukraine. Anthony Rota told legislators he had made a mistake by inviting ex-soldier Yaroslav Hunka, 98, to attend a session in the House honoring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last Friday. Rota publicly recognised Hunka, calling him a hero. The speaker's position rapidly became untenable after it emerged that Hunka, who received two standing ovations from lawmakers, had served in one of Adolf Hitler's Waffen SS units during World War Two. Russia called the incident outrageous. "That public recognition has caused pain to individuals and communities, including the Jewish community in Canada and around the world ... "It was a rollercoaster ride. I've been working so hard the last few months, and I was in a lonely space," Iyer, who was adjudged the player of the match, said at the post-match presentation. The 28-year-old returned to the team at the Asia Cup but a back spasm in the middle of the tournament meant he only got to bat only once over the course of two weeks. Films Like Singham Sends Out Dangerous Message: Bombay High Court Judge

Singham, an action film directed by Rohit Shetty, was released in 2011. Mumbai:  The cinematic image of a "hero cop" delivering quick justice without bothering about the due process of law, as shown in blockbuster films like "Singham", sends out a very harmful message, Justice Gautam Patel of the Bombay High Court said here on Friday. Speaking at a function organised by the Indian Police Foundation to mark its annual day and Police Reforms Day, he also questioned people's "impatience" with the process of law. Talking about police reforms, the judge said that the Supreme Court's judgement in the Prakash Singh case was an "opportunity missed", and also noted that the law enforcement machinery can not be reformed unless we reform ourselves. The image of police as "bullies, corrupt and unaccountable" is a populist one and the same can be said about anyone in the public life including judges, politicians and journalists, he s

Blinken Says Iran Not A Responsible Actor On Its Nuclear Programme

Blinken slammed Iran for removing IAEA inspectors from its nuclear programme. New York:  Iran's decision to bar some U.N. nuclear inspectors suggests it is not interested in being a responsible actor on its atomic program, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday. The comments suggested Washington is skeptical of Tehran's desire to engage seriously on restricting its nuclear program. On Saturday, the head of the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) nuclear watchdog condemned Iran's move to bar multiple inspectors assigned to the country, hindering its oversight of Tehran's atomic activities. Iran said it was responding to a call led by the United States and three European allies for Tehran to cooperate immediately with the Vienna-based agency on issues including explaining uranium traces found at undeclared sites. One of the agency's key purposes is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons by verifying that states honor their obligations to use n
