"We Can't Be Broken": Ukraine Vows On Stalin Era's Famine Anniversary

The Holodomor has long been a source of hostility between Russia and Ukraine. Several European leaders travelled to Ukraine to pledge support after weeks of Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy grid caused widespread power and water cuts as temperatures plunge with the onset of winter. "Once they wanted to destroy us with hunger, now -- with darkness and cold," Zelensky said in a video posted on social media. But he added: "We cannot be broken." UK Probes Apple, Google Over Cloud Gaming, Browsers

UK launched a probe into the domination of tech giants Apple and Google. (Representational) London: Britain launched Tuesday an in-depth competition probe into the domination of US tech giants Apple and Google of cloud gaming and mobile internet browsers. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) regulator will investigate whether consumer choice is limited by the behaviour of the Silicon Valley pair, it said in a statement after an initial study earlier this year. Apple and Google "have an effective duopoly on mobile ecosystems that allows them to exercise a stranglehold over operating systems, app stores and web browsers on mobile devices" to the detriment of competition, it said. An overwhelming 97 percent of all mobile internet browsing in Britain took place using Apple or Google technology in 2021, the CMA added. The watchdog will investigate "the way that Apple and Google dominate the mobile browser market and how Apple restricts cloud gaming through its

"Physiotherapy, Not Massage": Arvind Kejriwal On AAP Leader's Jail Video

Arvind Kejriwal said Satyendra Jain was not receving massage in Tihar jail. New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday refuted the BJP's claims of VIP treatment given to jailed minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain, saying the viral video from inside Tihar jail is of Mr Jain receiving 'physiotherapy' and not 'massage' as alleged by the saffron party. Speaking to reporters in Vadodra on Monday, the AAP national convenor said, "They are calling it a massage and VIP treatment, but it's merely physiotherapy." He further alleged that Home Minister Amit Shah was the one who received VIP treatment in Gujarat. "When Amit Shah was minister here in Gujarat, he received VIP treatment here, no such thing has happened for Jain," he said. Earlier on Saturday, a CCTV video of Mr Jain purportedly receiving a full-body massage in Tihar Jail went viral on social media -- two days after demands to shift the minister fr

Australia's Graham Arnold Not Focusing On Faceless France

Coach Graham Arnold said on Monday he refuses to even mention the word France, let alone any of their players, as outsiders Australia prepare for their World Cup opener against the reigning champions in Qatar. Even without Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema, midfielders Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante and centre-back Presnel Kimpembe, France are full of global stars, led by Kylian Mbappe. But Arnold doesn't want his players to get overawed by illustrious opponents and has tried to present the French as faceless positions with specific strengths and attributes rather than star individuals. "It's not being disrespectful at all but I've hardly mentioned the word France and I've hardly mentioned any players' names," said the Socceroos coach. "They all play in positions, the players know who they are but it's about identifying those players' strengths and it's one against one. "There's 10 blue shirts against 10 yellow shirts and

Eighteen people were wounded in the shooting shortly before midnight, police said, adding that an unspecified number of the wounded remained in critical condition. They said at least one other firearm was found at the club. The shooting is the latest in a long history of attacks on LGBTQ venues in the United States, the deadliest of which claimed 49 lives at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, in 2016. The suspect in C

Qatar First World Cup Hosts To Lose Opener With Ecuador Defeat

Qatar became the first home team to lose their opening World Cup match as Ecuador cruised to a 2-0 victory over the hosts, with Enner Valencia scoring twice in the tournament curtain-raiser on Sunday. Asian champions Qatar enjoyed the backing of the majority of the crowd at the 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium, but could not follow a glitzy opening ceremony with a statement performance. Ecuador thought they had made a dream start when they silenced the home fans as Valencia headed in, only for the goal to be ruled out by VAR for an offside in the build-up. Valencia did break the deadlock with a penalty in the 16th minute and doubled his tally just after the half-hour mark. Qatar improved slightly in the second period, but by the end of the 90 minutes, the excitement which greeted the build-up -- featuring Morgan Freeman and BTS star Jung Kook -- was a distant memory as thousands of fans left early amid a deflated atmosphere. Felix Sanchez's Qatar will likely need a positive resu

Jailed Putin Critic Alexei Navalny Sent To Solitary Punishment Cell

Alexei Navalny was sentenced to 9 years in prison after a fraud conviction in March this year. Moscow: Jailed Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny on Thursday said he has been transferred to a solitary punishment cell, a development he said was clearly designed to shut him up. Navalny, the most prominent domestic critic of President Vladimir Putin and a strong opponent of the war in Ukraine, is already serving prison terms totaling 11-1/2 years for fraud, contempt of court and parole violations, all of which he rejects as trumped-up charges. Navalny said that just days before close family members had been due to arrive to see him, prison officials told him he was considered an "egregious offender" and would be transferred to a cramped cell, where long visits were not allowed. "So I will not have any more visits ... oh well, I'll take it philosophically. They're doing it to shut me up," he said in a series of tweets. "So what's my fi

US crypto investors sued FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and several celebrities who promoted his exchange including NFL quarterback Tom Brady and comedian Larry David, claiming they engaged in deceptive practices to sell FTX yield-bearing digital currency accounts. The proposed class action filed on Tuesday night in Miami alleges that FTX yield-bearing accounts were unregistered securities that were unlawfully sold in the United States. FTX filed for bankruptcy and is facing scrutiny from the US authorities amid reports that $10 billion (nearly Rs. 81,500 crore) in customer assets were shifted from FTX to Bankman-Fried's trading company Alameda Research. At least $1 billion in client funds are missing, sources have told Reuters.
