Punjab Announces Big Pay Hike For Thousands Of Teachers After Regularisation

Punjab government has tripled the salaries of 12,700 teachers, who were regularised recently.

Chandigarh:

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said the salaries of 12,700 teachers, who were regularised recently, have been increased by up to three times.

In a statement here, Mr Mann said these teachers will be known as associate teachers and special inclusive teachers, adding that they will be governed by a 'Policy for Welfare of Adhoc, Contractual, Temporary Teachers (Nation Builders) and other employees in the School Education Department'.

Based on their educational qualifications and primary conditions for entry into services, their emoluments have been fixed up to the completion of 58 years in service.

Mr Mann said these teachers will be entitled to an increment of 5 per cent on their salaries every year.

The chief minister said BA pass education providers (associate teachers) who were hitherto getting Rs 9,500 per month will now get Rs 20,500 as an emolument whereas such teachers with ETT (elementary trained teachers) and NTT (nursery teacher training) qualifications will get Rs 22,000 as compared to the salary of Rs 10,250 at present.

Similarly, teachers with BA, MA, and B.Ed degrees who are at present getting a salary of Rs 11,000, will now get an emolument worth Rs 23,500. Inclusive education volunteers will now get Rs 15,000 instead of Rs 5,500, Mr Mann said.

Education volunteers who till now were getting a salary of Rs 3,500 will be paid Rs 15,000, said CM Mann, adding that the teachers under the EGS (employment guarantee scheme and the AIE (alternative and innovative education) who are getting emolument worth Rs 6,000 will now get Rs 18,000.

This is a landmark decision of the state government which will ensure the holistic development of these teachers, he said.

These teachers have rendered services for more than 10 years in the education department after which the state government regularised their services whereas the earlier governments had just done lip service on the issue, he added.

(Representational) Seoul: North Korea fired several cruise missiles towards the Yellow Sea on Wednesday, Seoul's military said, the latest in a series of tension-raising moves by the nuclear-armed state. Hours later, North Korea appeared to confirm the firing, saying it had carried out its first test of a new generation of strategic cruise missiles it is developing, the Pulhwasal-3-31. Pyongyang has accelerated weapons testing in the new year, including tests of what it called an "underwater nuclear weapon system" and a solid-fuelled hypersonic ballistic missile. "Our military detected several cruise missiles launched by North Korea towards the Yellow Sea at around 7:00 am today," the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. Unlike their ballistic counterparts, the testing of cruise missiles is not banned under current UN sanctions against Pyongyang. Cruise...

"Jaiswal Has Run Ahead Of Gill": Ex-India Star's Massive T20 WC Verdict

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has suggested that Yashasvi Jaiswal is slightly ahead of Shubman Gill in the pecking order as captain Rohit Sharma's partner at the top in T20Is. Since making his debut last year, Jaiswal has been in stunning form in the shortest format of the game. Gill's form, on the other hand, has dipped since the ODI World Cup last year in India. With the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held later this year, Chopra feels Jaiswal will open the innings with Rohit during the tournament. "It's clear that Yashasvi Jaiswal has run ahead of Shubman Gill. Yashasvi is ahead in the two-horse race, Gill is lagging slightly behind. Gill was played in the first match, dropped in the second, and wasn't played in the third as well," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. Jaiswal helped India beat Afghanistan in the second T20I earlier this week, scoring a quickfire fifty. Considering his recent form across formats, Chopra emphasised that Jaiswal has ...
