Discuss, Debate, Decide And Avoid Disruption: Vice President To New MPs

Venkaiah Naidu told the MPs that their conduct is under constant public scrutiny. (File) New Delhi: Amid continued disruptions in Parliament, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said adversarial politics should not be allowed to impact the functioning of Parliament and state legislatures. Inaugurating a two-day orientation programme for new MPs virtually from Hyderabad, he said differences should be resolved through debates and discussions by cultivating the ability to understand others' opinions point but not necessarily agree with them. Expressing concern over the overshadowing of debates and discussions by rising disruption and confrontation, Mr Naidu said people, especially the youth, are justifiably getting impatient and disillusioned with the way democratic institutions are functioning. "Both government and the Opposition have the collective responsibility for a smooth and effective functioning of the House," he said. Mr Naidu urged the members to p

Nunez Outshines Haaland As Liverpool Beat Man City To Community Shield

Liverpool struck first blood against Manchester City ahead of the new Premier League season as Darwin Nunez made an instant impact for Jurgen Klopp's men to win the Community Shield 3-1. In a tale of two big summer signings, Nunez came off the bench to win a penalty and score his first goal since a 75-million euro ($77 million) move from Benfica, while Erling Haaland had a City debut to forget. Trent Alexander-Arnold's blistering strike gave Liverpool a deserved half-time lead in Leicester. But it was City's other new forward who hauled Pep Guardiola's men back into the game after the break as Julian Alvarez equalised. Tying down Mohamed Salah to a new three-year deal was Liverpool's other major piece of summer business and the Egyptian was deadly from the penalty spot after Nunez's header was handled by Ruben Dias. The Uruguayan then got his own glory moment by stooping to head home in stoppage time before tearing off his shirt in celebration. Victory saw

Facebook Shuts Funding for US News Partnerships Program: Details

Meta Platforms says it will no longer pay US news organisations to have their material appear in Facebook's News Tab as it reallocates resources in the face of the economic downturn and changing user behavior. The company said Thursday that most people “do not come to Facebook for news, and as a business it doesn't make sense to over invest in areas that don't align with user preferences.” Meta, then called Facebook, launched the partnerships in 2019. The “News Tab" section in the Facebook mobile app only displays headlines — and nothing else — from The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, BuzzFeed News, Business Insider, NBC, USA Today and the Los Angeles Times, among others. Russian regulators have fined chat service WhatsApp and Snapchat for failing to store Russian users' data on local servers, part of government efforts to control online activity. A Moscow court on Thursday imposed an 18 million ruble (roughly Rs. 2,40,00,00) fine on chat service WhatsApp and a 1 million ruble penalty on disappearing message platform Snapchat. The fines followed a complaint by Russia's state communications regulator, Roskomnadzor. The Russian government has been trying for years to establish greater control over the internet and social media, an effort that has intensified in recent months as it tries to limit the flow of information about Ukraine. Neither Facebook parent Meta Platforms, which owns WhatsApp, nor Snap, which runs the Snapchat app, responded to a request for comment. The court said it was fining WhatsApp for repeatedly refusing to localize data of Russian users. WhatsApp received its first Russian fine, for 4 million rubles (roughly Rs. 52,15

The new Eknath Shinde-BJP government is reviewing such hasty decisions to avoid unnecessary burden on the state exchequer, said Devendra Fadnavis while speaking to reporters here at Mantralaya, the administrative headquarters of the Maharashtra government. Deadly Pool Discovered At Red Sea Kills Anything That Swims Into It

A brine pool can stun or kill animals and even pickle them alive. Scientists from the University of Miami have discovered a lethal pool at the bottom of the Red Sea that kills anything that swims into it. As per research, the brine pool was uncovered 1.7 kilometres beneath the surface using a remotely operated underwater vehicle. The scientists came across the deadly pool during the last five minutes of a ten-hour dive.  The researchers explained that a brine pool is a depression in the seafloor that is filled with highly concentrated salt water and other chemical elements which is saltier than the surrounding ocean. They said that these underwater pools can stun or kill animals and even pickle them alive.  Speaking to Live Science, lead researcher Sam Purkis described the deadly pools as “among the most extreme environments on Earth” and said, “Any animal that strays into the brine is immediately stunned or killed.”  Further, Mr Purkis informed that fish, shrimp and eels appear
